My immediate reaction to seeing this month’s chart was to think “hooray, hooray”, hooray! After the intensity of this last six months in particular, the skies appear to be clearing.

On a broader level though things will continue to be intense but without the potentially explosive edginess of the last months. As we will see, the dark goddesses remain strong, the Saturn square Uranus is coming into a final peak and the month starts with a potent and high-energy total solar eclipse in Sagittarius.

What is unique about the chart is the overwhelming number of positive aspects between the major players, including in the chart for the eclipse.

Let us have a closer look!

Sun in Sagittarius conjunct Mercury and Vesta

When Sagittarius gets going, everything starts to appear more positive; his irrepressible spirit, his vision of the big picture and his sheer passion for living a full life can be quite contagious. His unique combination of farseeing intelligence and earthy animal instinct is further enhanced by the fact that his ruler Jupiter is still having fun in Aquarius. Sagittarius loves to harvest the same level of heightened knowledge as the Waterbearer but with a stronger emphasis on translating that into direct action.

And Mercury, whose chameleon tendencies allowed him to take on the tone of whatever Zodiac sign he is in, is more than happy to go along for the ride, as he enjoys the additional fire moving through his, and our, nervous systems.

The presence of Vesta is interesting though; this is the third month that the Sun and Vesta have been spending time together but now in Sagittarius, she has a somewhat contradictory pull on the centaur’s energy. As a goddess, and priestess, of earthy containment she can slow him up a little but because she also specialises concentrating and directing energy, she can make him far more effective.

Sagittarius Sun sextile Saturn in Aquarius, square Pallas Athena in Pisces

A good aspect to Saturn offers similar support to that of Vesta; to provide good concentration, earthy realism, healthy discipline and the ability to give form to ideas, vision and goals. He supports us to get stuff done!

In Aquarius he is attempting to bring down to earth our giftedness and individual uniqueness and so his orientations are not that different to that of the visionary Sagittarius.

Sun Square Pallas Athena in Pisces.

Here Is another of the so-called Virginal Goddesses impacting the expression of Sagittarius, with a mixture of keen intelligence and Piscean intuition. Like all the fire signs, Sagittarius has an aversion to the watery energies of emotional vulnerability, sensitivity and deep emotion, preferring to gallop off in search of adventure and inspiration. Many of us use and misuse excessive activity, physical exercise and over busyness to avoid emotional material that we don’t want to face or feel. And indeed, our superficial culture supports us to do so.

Here, Pallas is saying to Sagittarius there are other layers of knowledge, intuition and insight that come from the same sensitive and psychically opens places inside ourselves. They can bring subtlety, nuance and expanded consciousness to the ways that we weave ourselves through life, but if we don’t, these design energies will dry up and trip us up.

Sagittarius Sun trining the Chiron, Lilith, Hekate conjunction

The healing processes reflected by Chiron moving through Aries involves flushing out a great deal of fear absorbed during childhood, particularly from parents who were afraid of stepping beyond their conditioning and owning their authentic individuality and creative fire. That elimination process goes hand-in-hand with the reclamation of the essence of Aries; independent, forthright, courageous and pioneering. Simultaneously, we can get to own more of the healing aspects of fire energy.

Trines then from an equally vibrant Sagittarius Sun brilliantly supports the reclamation and the healing, as does sextiles from Saturn in Aquarius. This heightens the healing potentials of the month, which are also reflected by the Moon conjunct the healing goddess Hygeia in Libra.

Venus conjunct Pluto in Capricorn

Simply put, this represents a uniting of love and power, of the beautiful, sensual, erotic Aphrodite diving into the underworld to mate with its ruler. How this goes for each of us is dependent on how much we can trust love to transform us, how much we can let go emotionally, spiritually and sexually and, how much our external relationships need to transform as part of the urge towards ever deepening evolution towards the sacred marriage.

Each of these questions are abundantly supported and enhanced from two very different, but at this time, related sources. From one direction are sextiles from Mars in Scorpio and from the other, are sextiles from Neptune in Pisces.

Mars in Scorpio is sexually one of the most potent, ardent, penetrating and sometimes relentless expressions of the phallic Mars.

From the other position, Neptune in Pisces acts as a psychic and emotional lubricant (pun unintended!) to the changes represented by Pluto and to our individual abilities to surrender into the depths of our hearts and sexuality.

Uranus in Taurus squares Saturn in Aquarius

This is the final peak in this gigantuan struggle that has been an astrological signature

for the year, going exact on Christmas Eve, which will add another layer of stress to the pre-Christmas madness on top of everything else!

There can also coincide with major upheavals there to do with family, patriarchal figures, generational influences and the ongoing struggle between conservative elements and the urge for significant change.

If you have been feeling that you’d like to pass on the traditional family Christmas, you are probably being quite intuitive.

The ideal and mature pathway is to own both energies, work with their inherent limitations and potentials and find a middle way. If we have any chance as a civilisation, we need brilliant innovators who have an earthy realism and carry their own inherent wisdom, independent of pressure from both the extremes Right and Left.

Total Solar Eclipse Saturday, December 4th, 3:33 PM AWST, 6:33 PM ADST at 12° Sagittarius

As this eclipse is so close to the start of the month, its chart is very similar. As a New Moon eclipse, it radically increases the voltage of energy to all of the above processes, while representing the possibility for dramatic new beginnings in whatever house this falls in your own birthchart.

The eclipsing Sun and Moon positively energises all the great aspects to Saturn, Chiron, Lilith and Hekate, while adding additionally good aspects to Kali in Aquarius, and Parvati in Aries, bringing this entire list into a very potent and very juicy circuit, which also has tremendous healing potency about it.

There is one challenging aspect, and it is a big one, in the form of an opposition to the Black Moon in Gemini. This dark, mysterious expression of the Great Mother can challenge us with the psychospiritual debris, the consequences of what we have refused to deal with, in terms of our own emotional processes and that of our civilisation. Unfortunately, this can exaggerate the current polarisations that are dividing us, as well is bring to the surface some of the darkness of our shadows.

Whatever surfaces, however painful and life-threatening, this is also a massive karmic clearing and if we can work with that, then we can get greater access to the deep sacred feminine with all its power, love and dedication to the truth.

While this eclipse is a massive birthing event of light and power, some aspects of the birth will be difficult in the short term, but its energy can radiate for several months.

May we all be able to catch the best of this big wave of power.
