THIS MONTH’S ASTROLOGY |
We start the month 11 hours after the full moon in Capricorn, highlighting the polarity between the Sun in watery Cancer and the Moon in earthy, grounded practical Capricorn, in a curious juxtaposition between masculine and feminine (i.e. the masculine Sun in a feminine sign, the maternal Moon in a partly masculinised one) with both in hard aspect with the tough love, stoic and testing Saturn. |
This could make the start of the month a difficult one. However, as we will see, in a massive compensation, the benevolent Jupiter is all over the chart aspecting many of its hotspots. This suggests significant improvements in the energy when we get into the second week. |
|
In a direct conflict between water and fire, Saturn will often show up as a presenter of significant obstacles which can be seen as sheer bloody-mindedness but more often than not are tests around our resilience, commitment and ability to keep moving in ways that can be seen as character building! Sometimes these obstacles come at us from the outer world but almost always we get presented with inner obstacles based on negative and inaccurate patriarchal beliefs absorbed earlier in our lives. |
|
Some of the themes with the Sun’s square apply here but are more specific around our feeling selves. Moon Saturn squares often talk about emotional suppression and/or obstacles that diminish or restrict our access to the full range of emotions. It can produce temporary feelings of aloneness, unworthiness, and even depression, especially when Saturn rules the sign that the Moon is in. |

Here the planet of the mind is in a rich stellium, or multiple conjunction, with an exalting love goddess, a Kundalini Goddess of Healing and with the benevolent expansive Jupiter. This is a particularly good time then for heart opening experiences, for working with potent spiritual and tantric practices, all under the gracious umbrella of the giant Jupiter. |
The square to Medusa is obviously more problematic particularly since this psychospiritual warrioress is in Aries, working much like the Kaali influence but sometimes with less subtlety. However, whatever the manifestations, both positive and more difficult to the Mercury stellium, it will nevertheless be infused with the healing power of Hygeia, a goddess who has an important role in the mythology around Medusa. It is good to know that whatever toxicity exists in our systems or is poisoning the collective, there is this Goddess within each of us who can purify even the most deadly of toxins and turn the energy alchemically into healing power. We can do some really important work in this territory this month. |
|
This flaming grand trine linking the three fire signs describes the goddess of love being both powerfully and dynamically expressive and yet with a simultaneous containment of the energy that can make it even more potent and effective. Having a love goddess well-connected with any of the so-called Dark Goddesses, of which the Black Moon can be considered their Great Mother, opens direct pathways between our loving and passionate hearts into the transformative and tantric depths of the lower chakras. There is no lack of powerful Shakti here, that can infuse our relationship experiences, our evolution and our sexual expression. As both a purificatory agent and as another truth goddess, the Black Moon can push up obstacles clog our connection to the potency and openness of our hearts, including limitations around going into the layers of deeper intimacy and depth. |
It has to be said though, that the very same energy will put intense and potentially disruptive pressure on any relationship that cannot open to these possibilities. |
|
This is another rare event astrologically, to have our more personal inner masculine warrior directly aspecting the three Outer Planets and Jupiter all at the same time! |
To understand the significance of this, one needs to be aware that this month Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, who have been positively in sync with each other for some time and in doing so, are clearly reflecting the cataclysmic events happening across the globe, are now perfecting their synchronisation. All of them reach 4° of their respective signs of Gemini, Aries and Aquarius, and if that’s not extraordinary enough, all of them are being aspected by Jupiter who is now in Leo and who will also reach 4° of that sign in the 3rd week of this month. |
And as for Mars? On some level this warrior joining the four-way alignment can be exceptionally empowering or exceptionally destructive depending on an individual’s state of consciousness. All of us have to be careful with how we use power, what we do with our anger or not, whether we can be seduced by arrogant egocentricity (one shadow of Jupiter in Leo) and where we might choose to direct the enhanced drive and effectiveness. |
Whatever the case, be careful in this first week as Mars will cross the deep well of generational trauma reflected by Sedna (at 2 degrees of Gemini) and when he exactly conjuncts the volatile Uranus this weekend. Be especially watchful around the potential for accidents, danger and spontaneous outbursts of violence. |
|
This benevolent giant of ours has spent the last 12 months rather toned down, as he has bought his expansive qualities to the watery realm of Cancer. His distribution of grace is always powerful but not as easily seen or experienced in the water signs. He has been encouraging this deeply emotional and often outwardly reserved, even protective, sign to take more risks in trusting life and the benevolent energies of the universe, even when they’re overpowered by more dramatic events. |
And now, he’s going into Leo where there is more spaciousness, freedom, open sky and spontaneous expressiveness to be had. And this is a welcome development particularly when our other fire signs have been in the throes of strong healing and purificatory processes, added to by the arrival of the tough love teacher Saturn in Aries to follow-up on the eight year work of Chiron. |
At its best Jupiter in Leo represents a 12 month period that enhances our ability to show up in the world, to claim our rightful place the scheme of things, to revitalise our spontaneity, creativity and passion, and to step into more of our personal power, including taking on leaderships roles whether within or without. As they say in the classics, it’s time to stay in your own boat and steer it well! |
It’s also a time when we can reclaim some of the joyful, playful and expressive aspects of the child within us, to create a better balance between work and play, and to seek out more avenues for the expression of passion and creativity, whatever that might be. |
Go well, stay safe, and make use these tectonic shifts to deepen your connection with both your individual self and your pure Self! |
With love and blessings, |
Daniel |
