Sun in Aries.

Even though this is Aries’ time of the year, the sign is getting more than its fair share of attention this time around. With the Sun, Chiron, Jupiter, Vesta and Mercury in the sign, and with invigorating trines to a Leo Moon, this is going to be a highly energetic month, with a lot of potential forward movement.

However, while the fire of the sign is being greatly enhanced, especially by the presence of Jupiter in the middle of it, there are also forces at play that are modifying that full potential and even temporarily, suppress it.

One of the quests of the Wounded Healer is to help us heal our fire energy as well to awaken the healing power of the element. But in order to do so, he must dig out those dynamics, influences and impressions that have had us denying the passionate, instinctual, assertive and spontaneous aspects of ourselves.

In true Chiron fashion, this process is necessarily unpleasant at the times when this inner spiritual master is pushing up psychic emotional baggage to be released. This process is not just infused by Chiron; it is also fuelled by the Black Moon conjuncting the Leo Moon. This is especially true for those born in the last five days of the sign (April 15th to the 20th) by ongoing squares from the devastatingly transformative Pluto.

As we will see, these twin processes of awakening and purification will come to a huge peak with a Total New Moon Eclipse on April the 20th.

(You can see why I set up a live workshop in Perth on the first day of the month! For the Sydney folks, there will be a repeat in Katoomba on May 7, three days after the second eclipse!)

Mercury in Aries conjunct Vesta and Jupiter.

Here is another mix of great expansion coupled paradoxically with deep focus and grounded containment. Mercury and Jupiter contacts lighten up the sky for us dramatically, expanding our horizons, potentials, visions and learning. As a great antidote to old, restrictive and negative thought, this usually comes with a welcome infusion of trust, confidence and faith, that however tough things are, the possibilities for unexpected support, sudden windfalls and clear expressions of grace are very high.

As long as we are not going over the top, taking on too much or taking things for granted, this combination is one that can make us more aware of the potentials in any situation, while enhancing our capacity to receive, to be open to grace in whatever form.

Venus in Taurus conjunct Uranus and Juno.

The goddess of love is very much at home in Taurus and the transit can have her expressing in a deeply sensual, tactile, luscious and highly fertile way, whether through her body, her loving or her abundant creativity. In the sign she has lots of resonances with Laksmi, the goddess of spiritual and material abundance. She can be very, very yummy here!

Normally in Taurus, she would prefer stability, security and safety in ways that allow her to express her lusciousness. However, conjuncting Uranus brings in an element of restlessness, a need for change, a highlighting of individual freedom, with often sudden urges to break out from routine or boring situations.

Mars in Cancer trining Saturn in Pisces.

As you can imagine, this is not Mars’ favourite transit, as the deep watery Cancer tends to slow up this masculine warrior, limit his spontaneity and swamp his red-bloodedness with emotions and sensitivity. Consequently this can come with a fair amount of frustration.

But even though he’s been partly tamed here, don’t mistake that for passivity if you stir too deeply. An angry Mars can harden the crablike defensiveness of Cancer, a situation that is good for passive aggression or paradoxically using anger as a defence over the top of more vulnerable feelings. But if he gets really triggered and the anger can make it to the surface, it will come with a great deal more emotional power behind it.

On a less dramatic note, Mars can be well channelled here for working towards goals or desires that are emotionally important for the individual. And very superficially but nevertheless still accurate, this is good for working on the house, in the garden and building things for loved ones. This latter point is positively reinforced by the trine to Saturn in Pisces, as this Wise Old Man can provide healthy structural support towards manifesting ideas and projects, however mundane or subtle.

Mars conjunct Hekate, Square Medusa in Pisces.

Jupiter conjunct Chiron in Aries Square Pallas Athena in Cancer.

Juno Square Black Moon in Leo, square Hygeia in Aquarius, trining Lilith in Virgo.

Saturn in Pisces opposite Persephone in Virgo, squaring Kali in Gemini.

Neptune conjunct Medusa in Pisces, opposite Ceres in Virgo, sextile Pluto in Aquarius.

Pluto conjunct Eros in Aquarius, squaring South and North Nodes.

Total New Moon Eclipse at 29° 50 minutes of Aries April 20th.

This is a super powerful event in both positive and very challenging ways. As a New Moon, all the traditional associations with masculine and feminine unity, great fertility and new beginnings, are hyper charged in ways that will resonate for many months. It does represent the very end of some major cycles and, a powerful initiatory surge of creative potency into the new cycle.

The Sun and Moon have a wide conjunction to Jupiter on one side and conjunctions on the other, to Vesta and the North Node of the Moon just inside Taurus. Both Jupiter and the North Node hold and open us to great potential visions into the future, personally in our own birthchart and collectively for the evolution of our civilisation.

All this is positively reinforced by sextiles to Saturn and Hekate, and trines to Persephone and Parvati. However, there is an exact square to Pluto at the very beginning of Aquarius which basically asserts that while this is a karmically and culturally significant birthing, that it’s going to be a difficult birth on some very deep psychological and material levels. His presence describes a very big turning of the great karmic wheels of death, transformation and rebirth.

As sobering as this is, looking at all eclipse chart, it looks as though there is a fair balance between grace filled openings and intense transformative surges. It would be good to use ritual, ceremony and meditations to honour and be available to the eclipse but do take care out there in the world when it is peaking.
