THIS MONTH’S ASTROLOGY
A friend of mine commented recently about how thankful she was that the Sun and Mars had gone into Sagittarius and that how we could get some more breathing space after all the Scorpio intensity. However, in looking at this month’s chart it is obvious we are hitting some significant roadblocks and energetic dramas that temporarily diminishes the Centaur’s freedom.
So, it looks either first week at least will be pretty tough for reasons that we will see below, followed by quite a surprisingly good, even brilliant second week, where both Sagittarius and his ruler Jupiter get more positively energised.

Having the Sun and Mars together in Sagittarius is such a big energy, with the vitality of the sign drawing from its instinctual horsey power and the action man/warrior Mars. If you have ever seen a stallion at full speed moving across a field you get a feel for this line-up; fiery, feisty, free and magnificent. Michael Jordan at full tilt if you like!
It has been a slow buildup though as both have squares to the Black Moon and Hekate, exactly conjunct in Virgo, an earthy, contained sign that it is the very antithesis of Sagittarius fire. These goddessesof intense processes of purification, primal emotions and ancient mysteries of the feminine have a completely different agenda, complicated by age old conflicts with unbridled and excessive masculinity.
This can play out as power struggles in our relationships or between these parts of self within that produce their own level of psychological stress. With squares, the idea of is that you need to honour the needs of both, to serve the raw physicality of Sagittarius with conscious movement, breath and release work, while attending to the deep feeling and healing processes brewing under the surface.
There will be a fair amount toxicity showing up on both ends, so purificatory meditations like the Golden Kali would be helpful as well.

At the end of the first week the Sun trines the Wounded Healer Chiron, stretching through the following week, as Mars does the same on the 15th, a welcome relief after a week of difficult healing crosscurrents. The presence of Chiron, whose long transit of Aries is one about reclaiming our natural fire energy, continues the healing themes of the month with a greater degree of natural expressive flow between these three aspects of the masculine.
The combination then highlights masculine healing energy, particularly those sweet spots during any opportunities for teaching and mentoring others around their abilities to find their passion, inspiration and organic individuality. Sagittarius energy thrives on inspiration and in turn wants to inspire others.
With the sign and Mars operating more freely it also becomes easier to get things done physically and to act on our desires, creativity and vision.

This is an interesting month for Mercury who will be at his most mercurial. His sextile to the goddess of love enhances creative expression, communication in our relationships and can make us quite chatty and social in general. It also brings out the love of knowledge in both Mercury and Sagittarius, which in turn will spark the interest in whatever is showing up for Venus on the South Node of the Moon, that reservoir of past life derived knowledge in our subconscious. (More about that later!)
Mercury sextile Saturn is a very helpful transit as well, as the old taskmaster can be very good in grounding and offering more discipline to the exuberant expressions of Sagittarius, while offering greater awareness of the emotional and intuitive nuances in any situation or interaction. (As well as what happens when we do not listen to our intuition or gut feeling about things!)
The first of the month is the last day of Mercury in the sign until December 24th! How is this possible? This planet of the mind and communication jumps into Capricorn the next day, spends 10 days in forward motion, goes retrograde on the 13th, backtracks through Capricorn and jumps back into Sagittarius for the rest of the month.
The beauty about this is that Mercury goes stationary at 8° of Capricorn which sets up a great trine with the benevolent, expansive Jupiter, one that will fill the middle weeks of the month the great deal of positive, optimistic energy, and help reinstate our belief and faith that things will turn out for the better. As the trine engages two earth signs, we can only hope that this comes with positive news on the economic and environmental fronts.

In many ways Venus is at her happiest in Libra, a sign that she co-rules, with a great deal of resonance between this goddess of love and a sign that enhances relationships, harmony and diplomacy, love and beauty.
On the South Node of the Moon though there is some significant mystery underneath this traditional interpretation, as anything that crosses this Node will automatically bring up past issues and challenges that we need to face, old patterns that no longer serve us and any unfinished business. Whether from this life or previous ones, it can also unveil unconscious gifts, abilities and knowledge from the same sources.
So, here’s the goddess of love in the sign of relationships and therefore we can expect to revisit earlier relationship experiences, good and difficult karma is in the same territory and sometimes, even bring people from your past back into your life.
Venus squaring Pluto, peaking on the 3rd, speaks of the surfacing of subterranean dynamics around relationships that need to be faced, dredged out by the Plutonian urge to clear lower chakra debris, to recognise our shadowy saboteurs, and to get more honest and truthful in our relating.
So, we can expect some great surface expressions of Venus at this time but don’t get seduced by that in avoiding the deep challenges arising.
