THIS MONTH’S ASTROLOGY

It’s very much a Shiva time in this last week of February, something that will continue into March. The great Indian festival of MahaShivaratri happens at this time each year but coinciding with the Jupiter/Shiva asteroid conjunction makes it an additionally auspicious event with that much more power and grace.

In the lead up to our Shiva Jupiter workshop last Saturday, I had decided to intensify my meditation practice during the previous week to make maximum use of both the festival and the astrological event by adding some chanting of the great mantra Om Namah Shivaya. Subsequently the period was filled with deeper meditations and wild dreams, stormy inner weather and even wilder monsoonal storms.

So by the time we got to start the Zoom workshop I was vibrating with a mixture of excitement and anxiety, while praying that the electrical storms didn’t knock out the Wi-Fi during the morning. But once our small but intimate group had gathered and we got started, it was clear that we are tapping into very deep streams of spiritual power, the grace of which was so delectable and so joyful that I had to contain my exuberance at times in order to facilitate! It was indeed a brilliant workshop, one that will be followed up by another similar workshop when Jupiter reaches Chiron exactly on the 11th.

The Shiva theme continues as his asteroid aligns perfectly with Chiron at midnight of March the first and so will continue to colour the month. (Watch out for the appearance of a blog I’m in the process of writing about my life changing and synchronistic relationship with Shiva energy!)

We also have two highly significant events this month, both of which are related to Shiva energy. After 2 1/2 years in Aquarius Saturn goes into Pisces on the eighth and, after 15 years in Capricorn, the transformative Pluto goes into Aquarius on March 24th, representing a massive generational change in this collective power for deep change.

Let us see what else is happening,

Sun in Pisces

It is tempting to think of Pisces as a gentle, hypersensitive, mystical and profoundly emotional quality of energy. On one level all of this is true, coupled with its trademark empathy, compassion and tremendous creative potential.

However, this month we will see other aspects of the Piscean archetype, aspects that remind me of Liz Greene’s famous statement that “underneath every mild mannered, sensitive Piscean lies the chaotic world of Kali!”.

Sun in Pisces Conjuncts Medusa, opposite Persephone in Virgo

The Sun is intricately combined and entangled with the great power source that is Medusa, in itself a great challenge for anybody but one that is directly influenced by how much we have been able to purify and integrate the deep dark feminine in all her forms within ourselves.

On the danger side, this can bring up great toxicity, unhealed rage (particularly but not exclusively towards the masculine!) and a diminished tolerance to bullshit, denial and unconsciousness whether it within oneself or with others. The rage issue is particularly significant this month, with tough Mars, Neptune and Lilith aspects, with squares to Kali, and Black Moon in Leo squaring the Nodes.

In this case, it’s Medusa who wants and demands recognition and reclamation and, if owned well, can enormously power the psychic emotional and spiritual gifts of Pisces, giving them more psychological grunt, emotional potency and tantric juice. She is also sextiling Uranus, which will give her even more freedom to show off her wild side that also demands change!

Moon in Gemini conjunct Mars and Hekate

The looks like both an angry Moon and a Witchy one! (It is interesting that both the Sun and Moon are powerfully connected to two sorceresses!) Even though the Moon in an air sign can struggle with deep emotions, preferring detachment and observation, when working well they can be brilliant at articulating what’s going on within or in another.

Similarly, the warrior Mars can tend to be more wordy as well as physically active in the way it expresses its energy. But unlike other Mars positions, he can be very flexible, innovative and good at translating thoughts and ideas into action. The Moon adds a significant emotional tone to however it expresses.

As a traditional triple moon goddess, Hekate with the Moon highlights the medicine woman within in ways that allow more conscious connection with her gifts.Like the other dark goddesses, she has her fair share of pain, past life trauma, issues to do with the masculine and to the way we as a civilisation have treated the earth and its creatures.

Mercury in Aquarius conjunct Saturn trine Moon and Hekate, Square Kali in Taurus

Mercury really has its skates on this month, spending two more days in Aquarius, then two weeks in Pisces and the rest of the month in Aries. This may produce some interesting fluctuations in the way of our minds are operating, going from air, into water and then fire.

Conjuncting a mostly well-placed Saturn gives Mercury greater depth, stability, an earthier practicality, greater discipline and the capacity to connect more deeply to wisdom. Of course, it can also manifest as mental limitations, negative or self-critical thought patterns, old patriarchal voices and real-world obstacles that limits our range of possibility. Fortunately in this situationwe will get more of the former.

Saturn going into Pisces March 8

For the next 2 1/2 years the tough love teacher, lord of time and karma, and master of structure and manifestation will be in the sign of the Fish.

This is a challenging gig for both Pisces and Saturn, because they are so dramatically different. The otherworldly, emotionally and psychically fluid Pisces operates on a completely different plane to that of this structurally creative but patriarchal leaning expression of the masculine.

They will both learn and grow significantly from the experience.

The Pisces in part of ourselves is such an extraordinarily gifted place within us psychically, spiritually and creatively, a giftedness coupled with extraordinary, exquisite and excruciating level of sensitivity. However, as any Piscean will tell you, they find it very difficult to bring that giftedness into a full-blown flowering in the outer world.

Venus in Aries conjunct Vesta, Jupiter, Chiron and Shiva!

As I’ve written elsewhere, the three-way conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Shiva is one of the best alignments of the expansive, grace filled, healing and sacred expressions of the masculine that we’ve had in a long time. And those of you who have Chiron in Aries and/or are having your Chiron return, this combination brings additional grace and power to all your healing, spiritual and therapeutic practices.

And now the goddess of love, beauty and sensuality accompanied by the earth priestess Vesta, is crossing these three in the first week of the month. She will conjunct Jupiter exactly on the 2nd, then Chiron on the 4th and then catching up with Shiva on the 8th. We can see this as three days of fabulous heart opening love, followed by a few more days of deeper healing, of facing those earlier wounds to our hearts, our sexuality and our capacity to open to deeper intimacy. Hopefully, this will prepare us for the decidedly tantric and mystical line up with Shiva.
