THIS MONTH’S ASTROLOGY
It’s going to be a particularly challenging month with another mix of positive Grand Trines and more difficult Grand Crosses entangled with a potent New Moon eclipse. As much of the action is in the sign of Libra and virtually all the relationship archetypes involved there will be significant pressure on our interactions with others coupled with significant healing potentials (hence the timing of our Yallingup workshop on the sixth!)
With the partial solar eclipse occurring on the third, the chart for the beginning of the month is almost identical with very minor changes to the planets with the exception of the Moon. Consequently, this month’s description is virtually the same as for this particularly intense eclipse in the early hours of the morning in Australia. (2:45 AM AWST, 4:45 AM AEST)
As for the Moon, she is in Virgo and, in her Dark Moon phase, in the lead up to joining the Libran Sun for the eclipse. As the eclipse itself has very powerful purificatory surges, this particular Dark Moon phase will be equally intense in that respect compounded by an exact opposition with Saturn. On emotional levels, this will be an uncomfortable couple of days for many of us, the intensity of which will get progressively stronger in this pre-eclipse stage.

There is so much to admire about the sign of Libra with its trademark balance, grace, diplomacy, its love of beauty and its emphasis on creating harmonious relationships with others. In many ways it represents some of the greatest qualities of the human mind mixing these characteristics with a strong sense of justice, fair play and equality.
While it has a strong desire to maintain loving and peaceful relationship, this can collude with a tendency to avoid conflict and open expressions of anger. The latter can paradoxically create or attract the very thing that it would prefer not to have to deal with.
As an air sign, it can also share a tendency to maintain a certain detachment from deep and more troublesome emotions and in doing so, lose connection with the deeper layers of the feminine, preferring to hang out with its ruling planet Venus.
And so, the presence alone of the dark goddesses, the Black Moon and Hekate (closely followed by Medusa) in the sign is a major challenge to Libran sensibility, let alone having an Eclipse drop in its depth charges into the primal layers of emotion in all of us.
While this provides many opportunities to connect and reclaim these rather witchlike, sexually and spiritually powerful medicine women, helped by the presence of Mercury in the middle of this stellium, the eclipse is likely to detonate ancient sources of trauma, pain, grief and rage to erupt into the collective.
While much of this comes from transgenerational and cultural sources, psychic emotional material from our past life histories will be particularly significant as the eclipse also conjuncts the South Node of the Moon.

This goddess of love has moved into even sexier territory after her transit of Libra. The sheer emotional, psychological and sexual potency of Scorpio brings intensity and passion to our desire natures, and draws us deeper into naturally tantric territory. While its shadow can include jealousy, possessiveness, resentments and vengefulness, there is something deeply pure, both crystalline and red/blue blooded about the heart of Scorpio and its capacity for deep love. Go for deeper depth in your loving!

The trine to her mythological husband Mars in the sign of Cancer enhances both the depth and the passion. Having an equally healthy connection to the Saturn helps stabilise that energy enough so it can be used for the creative manifestation so loved by Venus in whichever directions we used to direct it. Venus and Mars also assist the current Saturnian process of giving structure, form and manifestation of the huge depth of creative, psychic and spiritual energies of Pisces.
In the face of the potential turmoil of the eclipse, having a supportive Saturn enhances our ability to maintain our centres in an almost Shiva like way. Such a creative Grand Trine also points to using creative outlets will help handle the intensity of the eclipse energies by tweaking our psychic pressure valves. So dance, paint, potter, whatever gives you some release and relief.

This Mars square presents multiple challenges both collectively and personally. And it’s not a good look for conflict zones around the planet. The intense pulse of the eclipse can activate more bitter conflict, ripping the scab of ancient wounds, and trigger the kind of trauma and rage associated with distortions to both the masculine and the feminine. And activate historical conflict between the two.
In Cancer, Mars has a tendency to suppress and control anger until it reaches critical mass and then explodes with great emotional intensity. Having the eclipse surging through the squares to the Mars can overwhelm the circuitry and for some people, any sense of control. For each of us then the challenge is to find ways to tweak our inner pressure valves while being careful around our actions and our words.
Dance and movement, the dynamic show meditations kundalini and chakra breathe, any other physical outlets, exercise, gym work and swimming (as long as you don’t overdo it and hurt yourself!) If this isn’t an option for you, the Golden Kali purification meditation on my website offers a less physically demanding way of moving toxins out of our systems.

Here the goddess of marriage lines up in a benevolent trine with her husband Jupiter, a magnificent joining of the Queen and King archetypes (in one of the drivers for the October 6 workshop) that emphasises the capacity of both to be agents of benevolent grace.
In their mythology, theirs’s is a troublesome relationship primarily because Jupiter/Zeus as an addiction to infidelity which infuriates his Queenly partner, who responds by persecuting his demigod children born to the various nymphs and princesses he has sex with. Keep in mind this is seen through a Greco-Roman perspective, one which in my opinion is often overstated and draws attention away from the benevolent, more regal aspects of both Jupiter and Juno (who have some significant resonances with Ganesh and Lakshmi in Indian mythology, which presents a much more balanced perspective)
The opposition to Chiron in Aries will both challenge our relationship dynamics and, offer opportunities to heal wounds from the past that have compromised our capacity to dive deeper into love and authentic intimacy. Chiron in Aries can skew the expression of independence and individual freedom in some unhealthy ways that can resist surrendering to the desire for quality, sustainable relationship.
