THIS MONTH’S & THIS YEAR’S ASTROLOGY

2025 is going to be another tumultuous year, a turning point year and one in which we teeter on the knife edge of a deconstruction/reconstruction process, some of which will be subtle and others downright dangerous.

It is also a time of big karmic shifts and changes as the planets Saturn and Neptune tangle with each other in early Aries, just as the visionary North Node leaves the sign of the Ram and crosses into Pisces. During this three-way crossover each of these bodies flirt with the death and rebirth cycle of Pluto, the latter planet now fully in Aquarius. This is going to get pretty messy at times and like the last year, more than a bit weird!

This year is also going to be a Year of the Goddess in all her forms, light and dark. We start the year 16 hours after the New Moon in Capricorn and even though the Sun and Moon are 8° apart, they are central pieces in a stellium, an elongated multiple conjunction weaved together by the asteroids Lilith, Pallas Athena, Kali and Persephone!

There are fortunately points of more obvious light in this year’s chart. In the Australian chart for instance Jupiter and Uranus are high in the sky and the latter is mostly well aspected, a reflection of unpredictable change that also can be incredibly innovative and liberating.

Curiously enough, the goddesses of love, beauty, creativity and heightened union are nearly all well aspected. It remains to be seen how much of this can burst through to the surface, when the underworld processes are so strong.

As one of my spiritual teachers would remind us, grace is always there. May we learn to be even more open to that level of reality and keep trusting.

With love and blessings,

Daniel

Sun in Capricorn conjunct Lilith and Pallas Athena, sextile Saturn in Pisces, sextile Medusa in Scorpio

Firstly, let me remind you that the mountain goat symbol for Capricorn reflects its stoic, quietly ambitious, masculine persona, an aspect empowered by Saturn and exaggerated to its detriment by the patriarch. A more ancient symbol is the Mergoat, with its regal goat head and mermaid tail, the latter a reflection of the deep but often hidden feminine within the sign. Here we have a situation where the sign is being overrun by goddess asteroids that demand recognition, reclamation and significant healing of masculine and feminine imbalances both within and without.

The role of the Sun is to integrate whatever it touches to create a more inclusive expression of the self, at least ideally.

However this is very difficult when the Dark Goddesses here carry ancient forms of trauma, suppression, persecution and psychologically, understandable rage. And if the masculine is unable or unwilling to accept this task, these goddesses can turn even more destructive, which includes paradoxically, exaggerating the misogynistic and warmongering tendencies of the wounded and wounding masculine.

The very same goddesses will energise the spiritual warriors and activists in women to stand up in the face of excesses of the toxic masculine and religious/political patriarch even more so than in recent years. And be supported by more enlightened men. As we will see, even Saturn is positively energising this expression with good aspects to the Sun and Moon!

Moon in Capricorn conjunct Kali and Persephone, in T-square with Chiron in Aries opposite Black Moon in Libra, sextile Saturn in Pisces

We start the year with the Moon in an even more intense situation, lining up with the scary magnificence of Kali and the Queen of the Underworld with her transformative processes. Like the Sun/Lilith/Medusa connection, this lunar threesome can also carry much ancestral, past life and collective cultural psychic emotional baggage that will surface at this time. Much of is going to feel pretty awful, with bubbles of rage, grief, despair bursting from lava-like sources.

(The Golden Kali meditation on my website is a profound for working with this territory, especially if you don’t have access to breath work and primal forms of release.)

The T-square involving the Black Moon in opposition to Chiron (and Hygeia!) speaks of similar upwellings, with the latter covering the last two weeks of December. Seen correctly, these processes of deep purification are intent on flushing our systems of trauma, enough to make space for a deeper layer of healing Shakti to move through our bodies. Even though this is an opposition, it nevertheless joins two or three healing agencies from masculine and feminine sources. Imagine for instance the full healing power of the Great Mother combining well with the piercing and initiatory qualities of Chiron! Underneath each archetype is full of the deepest love and compassion, even if they are equally ruthless with clearing the gunk out of our systems!

Again, Saturn quietly provides a similar level of stabilising support through his sextiles to Kali, the Moon and Persephone. He contributes a deep level of commitment and self-discipline to do the necessary work. As with all sextiles though, you need to put your own energy into the aspects to bring out its best.

Moon/Kali/Persephone trine Uranus in Taurus, sextile Juno in Scorpio

Moon trines to Uranus supports the breaking free from old emotional patterns, imposed contractions around the feminine, inhibitions in expressing feminine potency. Uranus can trigger the need to release our wildness, our desire for freedom of expression, to move more creatively in the world and to claim what is truly unique within us. He serves to shatter overly conservative patterns, situations and relationships that no longer serve us.

These trines are a very welcoming energisation of our change-making agency, especially when the psychic climate to thick and when parts of our civilisation are regressing.

Mercury in Sagittarius trining Chiron and Hygeia in Aries, sextile Black Moon in Libra

Mercury in Sagittarius highlights the centaurs love of knowledge, love of inspirational teaching and his willingness to walk the talk. As long as we don’t get stuck in dogma, Sagittarius wants to use language and action to expand our perception of life, by offering visions of bigger horizons, benevolent outcomes and ultimately, of a gracious universe despite evidence to the contrary. Obviously, this is much needed at this time.

In trining Chiron, Mercury offers greater learning and awareness around healing processes and especially around the use of language as a vehicle for healing energy. The trine does not just give us access to healing but to other dimensions of sacred knowledge, from the heightened masculine intelligence of Chiron.

Within the aura of this energy combination is more than a hint of healing intelligence of Pallas Athena and of Saraswati in Indian culture, where focused one pointedness can be used to direct healing Shakti.

Jupiter retrograding in Gemini squaring Saturn in Pisces

The benevolent Jupiter is unusually quiet at the start of the year. Apart from a wide aspects to Chiron, he is relatively unaspected, with the one exception, an exact square with his archetypal father Saturn.

For not the first time in the last 12 months, we are amidst a titanic struggle between the voices of forward movement, expansion, growth and optimism with the more conservative, practical and grounded, allegedly realistic voices (sometimes wise, sometimes not!) expressions of Saturn.

We need them both operating well in order to be successful in our ventures in the world but at this point of time, they are working at cross purposes with each other, producing significant points of great stress. Nowhere is this more obvious than in our economy, in the very real and very Saturn day-to-day realities and financial struggles of many people in our communities.

Nevertheless, despite the temporarily diminished energies of Jupiter, when it is difficult to maintain positivity and optimism, Saturn, as we’ve seen above is also in really good aspects to the Sun and Moon of this month’s chart. He is actually being helpful and is contributing his natural manifesting ability that in the long run will support our recovery.

We will start to feel a progressive releasing of tension, as Saturn and Jupiter release each other from the square at the end of January. Hopefully they’ll be some real movement on interest rates, rents and housing availability!

Jupiter will also go forward motion on the 3rd of February, at 11° of Gemini, when his energies will start to rise more fully again.

Venus in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus, conjunct Psyche in Pisces, sextile Hygeia in Aries, trine Vesta in Libra

Venus/Uranus squares are traditionally disruptive transits because the freedom loving, rebellious and individualistic Uranus doesn’t sit well with the maintenance of close intimate relationship, especially if the latter has too strong a sense of obligation or the relationship has gotten to stagnant. Subsequently the need for change can express all the way from simply needing to take some space, or to do things differently, all the way to a major separation.

Another expression of Venus interacting with Uranus is in the exploration of alternative relationship styles and/or in more edgier and exciting forms of sexual expression.

This aspect actually peaked on December 28th and so while separating, is still in play. Venus will then move into Pisces on the 4th to interact beautifully with the goddess Psyche and her consort Eros in Capricorn.

Mars in Leo opposite Pluto in Aquarius, trining North node in Aries and Neptune in Pisces

Along with the presence of the dark goddesses, the opposition from Mars to Pluto is potentially the most destructive aspect in this month’s/this year’s chart. While still in Leo, this god of anger, action, assertion, desire and red-blooded warlike masculinity is at its best and at times at its worst, depending on the ego development of his owner. And being retrograde can have a tempering and/or frustrating effect on this action man inside us.

Coming to another head-on with Pluto, the deity of death and rebirth transformation and empowerment (you might remember that they came head-to-head in early November!?) This aspect is known for the creation of great power struggles, or the exaggeration of existing ones, between individual desire and the vastly more powerful energy of Pluto. It’s easy enough to see this played out in the various big and damaging egos behind the current global conflict zones and the levels of extremism surfacing in our communities.

This aspect often triggers significant levels of anger and rage within people, so it’s good to be careful around your words and actions during stressful times, and additionally cautious around potentially violent situations or people.

More personally though, it’s worthwhile asking ourselves the questions of “how I am I resisting the need for deep fundamental change?” and “where are my own ego drives attempting to override the needs of others and, deeper on subtler voices of intuition wisdom?

Whatever the answers to those questions, paradoxically the Pluto Mars opposition can support therapeutic work around releasing accumulated anger, toxicity and bitterness, as well as deep spiritual work for authentic transformation.

This is where the Mars trining Neptune aspect, which will peak on January 12 and cover the whole of the month, supports each type of inner work, can release accumulated tension and hostility, and make it that much easier to let go of rigid ego stances. Less crisis oriented than Pluto, Neptune subtly transforms by dissolving resistances while lubricating the wheels of inner and outer growth.

Similarly, Mars trining the North node peaking on the fourth, is an alignment that can effectively harness the drive and focus of Mars with the soul level movement and vision of this futuristic Node of the Moon.

So, while the rigid and dogmatic will be butting heads, others will be able to get their conscious will, desires and drives in a greater alignment with their soul callings at this time.

May we all benefit from the eventual fruit of clearing the debris at the end of the great cycle, while preparing the ground inwardly and outwardly, for processes of reconstruction.

With love and blessings.
