Another Eclipse on the 3rd!

You’ll all be pleased to know that the astrology for March, even with another eclipse, is much more benign than our previous months. This is not to say that we are totally out of the woods, but a Jupiter-infused eclipse on the 3rd casts an aura of benevolence over all of the astrological terrain.

Sun in Pisces Conjunct North Node and Pallas Athena.

As from the 3rd, all the inner planets excluding the Moon, will be in Pisces, a time of dropping or being drawn more into the emotional layers of ourselves, encouraging greater connection between our conscious minds and our physical and emotional bodies. 

The Sun in Pisces not only highlights our emotional selves, but also the more mystical, spiritual dimensions of ourselves in ways that can infuse our day-to-day lives with greater intuition, insight, subtle perceptions and ability to flow. The presence of the very focused Pallas Athena will help with clarity and direction in this watery, uber-creative sign!

On the North Node, that visionary, futuristic portal, the Sun will provide, through our subtler senses, glimpses of a potential future infused by the spiritual and creative gifts of the Piscean part of self.

Venus conjunct Mercury and Persephone in Pisces.

Having the goddess of love right next to the Queen of the Underworld can be very challenging, within ourselves and in our relating. Either way, Persephone’s presence demands that we get down to the deep truths of what’s happening, or not happening, in our capacity for opening to love and in our intimate relationships. She also demands that we grow up more psychologically, sexually and spiritually in ways that honour the intelligence of the lower chakras and the deep feminine.

Mercury retrograding in Pisces conjunct Venus till the 3rd.

Mercury will be going against the tide in Pisces, going all the way back to 8° of the sign on the 20th, to then spend the rest of the month in forward motion. 

The highlight in that journey, however disturbing the retrograde motion is for the rational mind and our sense of order, is that his conjunction with Venus will be embedded in the eclipse, as part of the big focus on relationship evolution this month.

Mars in Aquarius still conjunct Shiva, Medusa and Vesta, squaring Uranus in Taurus. 

Once again, having our personal will and ego drives shackled to the sheer transformative potency of Medusa and Shiva, tests us around the effective use of power. Our anger issues, for instance, can surface in ways that even small frustrations or irritability can escalate quickly thanks to the surfacing of distortions to these great powers. That all of them are squaring the volatile Uranus declares that we are still in a potential danger zone around accidents, violence and sudden unexpected explosions of energy.

Saturn conjunct Neptune at 1° of Aries.

This collective transit has produced great periods of uncertainty, anxiety, lack of clarity and diminished drive, basically affecting everybody on the planet whether they are conscious of it or not. The evolutionary nature of it can be described as a massive deconstruction/reconstruction phase.

It may just be, as this is the final surge of this process that will progressively turn the dial more towards the reconstructive end of the spectrum.

Chiron conjunct Ceres in Aries sextile Hygeia in Gemini. 

The healing potential of this coming together of the Wounded Healer and the Great Earth Mother is accentuated by exact sextiles to the healing goddess Hygeia. These three, Chiron, Ceres and Hygeia are also positively aspecting the Vesta, Medusa, Shiva and Mars conjunction in Aquarius. This is particularly auspicious for all the great potential healing underlying even the toughest of aspects this month.

Total Lunar Eclipse: Virgo Moon opposite Pisces Sun; peaks at 10:34 PM Sydney AEDT March 3rd.

Being so close to the start of the month, this Eclipse has almost identical astrology to the March chart. This means that it will send a major pulse through all the aspects I’ve outlined above, whether “positive or negative” in quality.

Fortunately, Jupiter has the effect of protecting us from the worst of difficult aspects, of helping us move with the necessary challenges and highlight the gifts and the opportunities that every eclipse offers us.

Practice

1. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed.
2. Place both hands over your heart.
3. Breathe in through the nose for a count of 4.
4. Breathe out through the mouth for a count of 6.
5. On each exhale, silently say “I am willing to feel.”
6. Repeat for ten breaths.

Notice what surfaces without trying to fix it.

Archetype Spotlight: 

Persephone, Queen of the Underworld

Persephone does not visit the depths casually. She descends because something essential can only be found in the dark. This week, with Venus beside her in Pisces, she brings her unflinching gaze to the territory of love, intimacy and the deep feminine. She is not interested in how you perform relationship. She wants to know what is actually happening beneath the surface.

Psychologically, Persephone represents the part of us that must mature through encounters with shadow. She is the one who grows up by going down. When she appears this strongly in the field, we are being asked to stop performing wholeness and start being honest about where we are still guarded, still afraid, still pretending.

The practical invitation is direct. Name one truth you have been withholding from yourself about love or intimacy. Say it aloud, even quietly. Let it land in your body. Persephone teaches that what we name, we can begin to heal.
