Lightning, ocean and the wise elders

Welcome Dear Ones,

This week arrives with two kinds of weather. Some of what you carry is finding ground. Other forces are crackling wide open. The Sun in Gemini is still within the electric field of Uranus and Sedna, which means unpredictability, searing insight, and the surfacing of older, carried material are all still very much present. And yet Chiron and Hekate are moving in harmonious flow right now, two great healers walking quietly beside each other. Their medicine is available through ceremony, through breath, through honest inner meeting. Let the steadier currents hold you while the wilder ones do their work. In three weeks we gather in Sydney for two experiential workshops, including one built around a planetary conjunction that will not come again in our lifetimes. If something in this week is stirring you toward deeper work, that may be exactly where you belong next.

This Week’s Astrology (May 24th to 30th)

This is another curious week, while some aspects in our charts are getting more grounded and steady, others are amping up even ballistically. Some very deep and focused powers are supporting our relationship evolution and two of the great wisdom healing archetypes are working in sync.

The Sun went into Gemini 3 days ago, crossing the electric sky god Uranus and the oceanic mother goddess Sedna in the process, a radicalising combination that stretches between the outer cosmos and the deep realms of the psychic ocean. The Sun is still within the aura of this rather uncomfortable situation that can offer great unpredictability, searingly accurate insight along with revisiting some ancient, carried trauma for powerful releasing.

Movement on these fronts are well supported though with the Sun in quality aspects to Neptune and Pluto through the week, two outer planets that move and lubricate the deepest of cycles. We can get some really good work done spiritually and therapeutically in this climate.

Starting with a first-quarter Virgo Moon, who crossed the South Node overnight, to then send good aspects to a lovely relationship joining of the goddesses Psyche and Hygeia in Cancer in the an activation of our longing for soul to soul connections. The organically tantric qualities of these two are given added edge with aspects to the fierce, and equally tantric, Kali!

The cerebral Mercury, now in his home territory of Gemini, is getting greater connections to a lineup of Saturn and Shiva in Aries, healthy support for disciplining and focusing this very mercurial placement of the planet. He will however hit a significant speed bump in the form of an opposition to the dark mother Black Moon on Tuesday, a lesson around what happens when avoiding important psychic-emotional issues.

Venus and Mars continue their dancing sextile but one that is now slower and more sensual, as she has gone into the watery Cancer just as he went into the earthy Taurus. After such a juicy start , she will also face some mid week challenges in squares to Medusa and Pallas Athena on Tuesday, and to Shiva and Saturn, all in Aries, on Thursday and Friday. The consistent theme around these aspects are about how to balance the desire for intimacy with the need for psychic autonomy and containment, especially around our inner spiritual lives.

Having our masculine warrior in Taurus both slows his energy but gives it a much more grounded, measured and ultimately effective quality, better for consistent work over time. And he is the third inner planet to meet a mid week challenge, that of a hard square to the much more powerful Pluto in Aquarius, an aspect that is traditionally associated with inner and outer power struggles between our personal will with a greater will beyond our control. In Taurus he may choose to dig in and resist, a natural response for the Bull, but one that can inhibit a more flexible response!

In support of all of the above, Chiron in Aries and Hekate in Aquarius are in harmonious flow with each other, a meeting of wise elders, multidimensional healers, the ultimate medicine man and the ultimate medicine woman in a kind of Shiva Shakti energetic. Both are poised to move into the next signs of Taurus and Pisces respectively. It would be good to check in with each of these archetypes whether through ceremony, meditations or experiential astrology, especially if things get tough.

What is the difference between genuine psychic containment and emotional avoidance in my life right now? Where am I protecting myself wisely and where am I hiding?

Practice
Lie down or sit comfortably. Close your eyes and bring your awareness to the centre of your chest. Breathe naturally. Silently call on one archetype that feels alive for you this week, Chiron, Hekate, Kali, or Psyche. Notice where in your body a sense of their presence seems to arrive. Stay with that sensation for five minutes without trying to interpret it. Before you return to your day, write down one thing you are willing to release in this season.

Archetype Spotlight: 

Hekate, Keeper of the Crossroads

Hekate stands at the place where paths meet and choices must be made with wide open eyes, not averted ones. She is the torchbearer in the dark, not because she removes the darkness, but because she knows how to navigate it. Her wisdom is earned through descent and return. She does not simplify. She illuminates.

Psychologically, Hekate represents the part of us that can hold paradox without collapsing. She is most alive in moments when two seemingly opposite needs are in genuine tension, the longing for deep connection alongside the absolute requirement for inner sanctuary, the desire for intimacy and the equal desire for solitude. She does not resolve this tension. She helps you stand in it with clarity.

This week she is in harmonious aspect with Chiron, a rare and powerful meeting of the great medicine man and the great medicine woman of the zodiac. Her practical gift right now is discernment. Before you say yes to something this week, pause and let Hekate’s torch show you what is genuinely being asked of you and what it will actually cost. Then choose from that knowing.
