Q. I would like some added clarity on what impact my upcoming birthday will have with my Lilith in Scorpio and the opportunities to further my growth in all aspects of my life.

A. Just to clarify first that the Lilith you mention is what some call the Black Moon Lilith as opposed to the Lilith asteroid and the Dark Moon position. Demetra George writes that this Black Moon Lilith is the third stage of the Lilith myth, the crone phase where the goddess comes into her full power after a journey from being the initial partner of Adam, through exile and becoming a demoness, till transforming her pain and rage to come full circle, becoming a mature expression of her original potency. It’s a brilliant myth that like all good ones, is a great illuminator for all of us.

At this stage in my work though, and with all due respect to Lilith who I personally adore, the Black Moon has become for me more than Lilith as one aspect of the divine feminine but a direct symbol of the dark face of the Great Mother herself, in all her glory both immanent and transcendent.

Of course, many will disagree and this is understandable in both the semantic and the energetic cross-overs of the different faces of the divine feminine within and between cultures.

Anyhow, back to your birthday. And what a big one anyway, nine days after the exact square of Pluto and Uranus, and four days after an eclipse! This is likely to be one of those life-changing years for you.

As for your Black Moon in Scorpio in the 7th House, Saturn has been putting the squeeze on her for the last months along with transiting Persephone, a double-teaming that will confront the power dynamics and shadows in your relationship life, as part of both claiming more of your own potency and as an initiation into greater states of psycho-spiritual acuity. Persephone drops us through our naivity and denial while Saturn locks us into his own brand of dark alchemy so that we do actually “get it!”

Actually the three of them share common goals, to take us deeper into our own wisdom and authenticity. Saturn will play bad cop by bringing up anything unhealed about your relating to men, the masculine and the patriarchy, particularly to do with rage and betrayal.

When the Black Moon is active or activated, she takes us into level of purification that is unbelievably intense and painful and yet one that seeks to free us from our attachments to others and to that which is not us, not part of the authentic self. So you can expect to have to face some of these places and the more we get conscious of her agenda and can go with it, the quicker we can move into the corresponding states of grace that follow. You can’t rush her though; you can only surrender to her timing.

On your birthday though, transiting Black Moon is conjunct transiting Mercury and Jupiter, great aspects built into your solar return chart and therefore part of the whole next 12 months. This is a combination of deep conscious learning, about every aspect of the Mother and how to bring her potency benevolently into every aspect of your world, but particularly into your love life, your creativity and your sheer capacity for being brilliantly and potently alive!

The focus on your relationships is obvious with the 7th House and it’s clearly a time of clearing, shedding the inappropriate and reconstructing boundaries. What is less obvious is that transiting North Node and Psyche are conjunct the progressed position of the Black Moon in your 8th House. Psyche represents our capacity to open to soul to soul relationships while this Node speaks of the future embodied in the energies of the present. This can co-create a connection with someone that your deepest self will use as a vehicle for the deepest clearing of shadows on your heart, so that you can be available to such a love. This is where the dark mother shares the same goal as the exalted goddess of unconditional love and I can tell you from my own experience, she’s not going to stuff around in preparing you for the best.

By the way, it’s actually your birthday as I write this. Happy birthday and have an extraordinary year!
