People may wonder why I get a certain kind of excitement anytime a major eclipse approaches. And why I encourage people to really use these peak energetic events in their healing, spiritual and therapeutic journeys for significant, even life changing breakthroughs. A lot of this inspiration comes from my own personal experiences, like the one I had yesterday with the total solar eclipse at 29° 54 minutes of Aries.
A bit of background first.
There is a significant amount of generational trauma in my family system, some of which comes from the denial of the aboriginal heritage on my mother’s side, which I have tended to carry in my gut as both a suppressing and a depressing influence on my general vitality. Even after many years of spiritual and therapeutic work, it can still show up, feeling like a binding around my solar plexus and lower down.
On Thursday, with a colleague holding space, I entered the Experiential Astrology* wheel with zodiac cards laid out on the floor and symbols for the Sun and Moon placed together at the very end of Aries. The eclipse was at its exact peak. As I slowly stepped towards the symbols from the centre of the circle, I started to re-experience that band of dark, toxic and nauseous contraction around my gut. This time though, the band started to lift and separate from my body, and as it did, the darkness was thinning in its intensity and being perforated by small points of golden solar light.
And I started to laugh! There was such an exquisite release of energy, full of joy, freedom and eros. And I laughed some more, feeling both my inner child and my inner adolescent being freed to express without fear or inhibition in the world. My 65-year-old body felt infused by the energy that I hadn’t experienced so completely since I was 19, fit, healthy, explorative, passionate, purposeful and most of all free.
This experience of joy then suddenly, simultaneously, deepened and lifted, as the mantra of the goddess Parvati, the goddess of the sacred marriage, burst into my awareness, announcing her presence arising from the left side of my body, while all of his very youthful experience of the masculine was suddenly penetrated from above by Shiva energy opening my third eye and crown chakras. Shiva and Parvati were then joined in a rush of energy from my base all the way into my crown, a powerful yet subtle joining that only magnified the joy, while simultaneously grounding it in the earth.
As this was all happening, there was a simultaneous awareness that this experience, this eclipse, was heralding a whole new way of being, not just within myself but in the way that I express and take my work out into the world. Light and power, joy and juiciness, creativity and fertility and most of all, laughter and freedom.
Even in the writing of this, I am revisiting the sensations and feeling such gratitude at the extraordinary grace behind this exceptional experience.
This is why I encourage people to work with any significant astrological event, even the really tough ones. Each has its own unique form of grace, however hidden at times.
Blessings!
