Q. I have my Jupiter return coming up in September and I am wondering what this means.

A. Jupiter has a 12 year cycle and its return to the birth position is both the end of an old cycle and the beginning of a new one, in terms of how this part of self operates in your life. Jupiter is considered to be one of the good news planets, astrologically speaking, associated with expansion, faith, optimism, good will and good fortune and the expression of much that is truly positive about ourselves and of life in general. Any significant Jupiter transit coincides with benevolent occurrences, some of it obvious, some of it not. But it would be mistake to consider Jupiter to be solely good, as like any planet or part of self it too has a shadow, which can express itself negatively. Classically this comes in the form of arrogance, judgementalism, exaggerated self-confidence, tendencies to take on too much and not be able to make good on one’s promises and expectations…click ‘Read More’ to continue…
In an individuals chart, the return is hopefully a time of renewal of faith, optimism and joy that comes form attracting both good experiences to oneself and, to be a positive influence on others. And, it is often educational as we come face to face with our excesses as well. Your Jupiter in Virgo and conjunct the Midheaven, a major symbol relating to your experience of your parents, of your attitudes towards the world and of how these influence your choices and experiences in careers. In general, the indicators around your parental influences are very difficult (a Grand Cross involving Sun, Moon, Pluto and Chiron) but the fact that Jupiter is also there says that, despite the turmoil, wounding and manipulative control factors in your childhood relationship with them, you have still benefited from this legacy. However these very intense family patterns played out, you were protected from the worse of it and the consequent psychic/emotional inheritance of this is a part of what wants to be expressed in the world, through your career, for the benefit of others. Jupiter on the Midheaven is often found in the charts of teachers, priests and others who are agents for expansive, benevolent energy, through what they do and what they reveal to others. In the same way that there were times when you needed solace as a child, life will put you into positions of being able to provide that too others.

Your Jupiter return should help you get more on track with this by opening up new opportunities professionally, as well as further your recovery and release from the destructive elements of your past. This is imperative at this time in your life, as Pluto and Saturn are targeting your Grand Cross, meaning that this is time of deep transformation for you, which will involve the therapeutic exorcism of these psychosexual residues. You will need high quality therapeutic support for this process, and you can be certain that the benevolent energies of both self and Life are onside.
