Especially in the Shiva Shakti weekend in Katoomba, the depth of the work, the availability of our group of 13 to go for the richness, to descend into the dark and liberating chaos and to eventually emerge with exquisite experiences of the sacred marriage was truly exceptional.
Coming away from that incredibly fulfilling and humbling experience, I have just realised it has helped me get over the shock of the U.S. election and some of my despair for what this means for the rest of the world.
I don’t write much about politics in my columns, although I am a keen amateur analyst, but couldn’t help myself this month, including in my Nova article (thanks to my editor Margaret Caulfield for cutting me some slack!)
To see the (allegedly) free world led by such an appalling individual, you just have to ask wtf! What are the gods up too! Quickly though, it’s become clear that the Trump victory, the re-emergence of One Nation and other anti-establishment forces are rabid expressions of what the Uranus/Pluto square has been trying to do for the last 4 years, specifically the urge to radically change all the core structures in our world because they are profoundly damaging ourselves and the planet.
And like the Arab Spring, this comes with a great deal of chaos and unexpected consequences.
Another influence upon this time is the total failure of governments around the world to use the global financial crises as an opportunity to radically alter our financial systems to bring them into greater alignment with our ongoing climate challenges and make to distribution of wealth more equable between nations and between socio-economic layers within nations.
Instead they tinkered around the edges, maintained the status quo, propped up the system and essentially rewarded the very economic institutions who contributed to the crises with massive bailouts. It is no wonder then that it’s those left behind and further disadvantaged by the GFC that have voted in Trump, contributed to Brexit and supported anyone who offers to challenge the system.
The only shining light in the American scene was Bernie Sanders, a sole (and a soul) voice of integrity and honesty in the campaign but he too was undermined by the darker forces of his own party, and the collusion of mainstream media with vested interests to minimise coverage of his obvious appeal and successes.
All this occurred against the astrological backdrop of the super-powerful Black Moon, Kali, Hygeia mix on the new moon. Energetically this describes the election as an opportunity for bringing those dark forces to the surface, as part of the death, purification and rebirth cycle, so it is going to get very shitty before things get better.
As Andrew Harvey has said, this is a time that could well be not the destruction of our civilisation but the birthing pains of a new era in human evolution. The thing that will make the greatest difference is how much we can reclaim the sacred feminine, not just the goddesses of love and compassion but also the fierce warrioresses for truth, justice and equality.
The paradox is that it’s the accumulated distortions to these goddesses that negatively empower the war-mongers, the racists and misogynists and yet underneath their essence is the very force behind this intense purging of toxins. To not work with the latter is to slip into the despair precipitated by the former.
It is also important for all of us to take good care of our psychic boundaries against this collective onslaught, with regular meditation, hot and cold practices to keep our energy moving well, and connecting with the depth of the sacred feminine within.
With love and blessings,
Daniel
