Q. I am confused about my 2nd and 8th house. Earn my self worth and stop relying on others’ resources (north node in 2nd) vs I am good with other peoples money/inheritances (Venus, mercury, sun in 8th). Seems contradictory. Also I need to know my life’s purpose/career. This has been a constant struggle my whole life. I want to KNOW already!!!
A. From what you have written, it appears you’ve been exposed to an old conservative, black and white way of interpreting the Nodes. Instead substitute “and” for the “either /or” approach and you’ll be closer to the truth.
One aspect of this school of thought is that it can give the impression that you should get away from the South Node, with all those nasty karmic limitations and head towards your visionary North Node as soon as possible! Superficially this is understandable but its one that will have the person fall flat on their face because they haven’t done the real work, the necessary preparation to do with the South Node.

So in the 8th House, you will have both good and challenging traits and experiences to do with money, your own and others. As a rule of thumb, what ever sign and house it’s in and whatever other planets and asteroids connect to it, are energies that you’ve bought with you to refine, purify, balance some old karmic debts, experience some well-earned karmic fruits and, manifest them in this life
The South Node is always a mixture of good and bad karmas we’ve bought in with us to work with. The symbol itself gives us some of the clues as it can be seen as an alchemical container or a cauldron, both of which speak of brewing up processes, of bringing impurities to the surface in order to balance karmic debts and to refine the inherent gifts and skills we’ve bought in with us.
The fact that your Pisces Sun is conjunct your Aries South Node makes it even more significant, in that part of your soul purpose is to bring through the accumulated 8th House skills of the node so that your Sun can shine more fully. Your past-life history is intimately intertwined with the expression of your Sun! (Which I also have. It wasn’t until I connected with my past life records and the techniques that allowed me to do so, that my life started to both make real sense and to come together).
But there is far more to this mystery if you add the particular mix of asteroids that I use in the chart, as you also have Persephone and Lilith conjunct your Sun and Eros conjunct your Venus, all of which are connected to the South Node. And with the exception of the Sun, all in Aries!
There’s too much to go into fully here but I’ll mention some of the obvious themes. You’ve had lots of history around various forms of power, spiritual, psychological, sexual and financial, so you’ll find a degree of comfortability around intense situations, even a degree of erotic stimulation (who was it that said that power was an aphrodisiac?) in places that would freak a lot of people out.
With Persephone (and Hekate later in the house) you’ve had a great deal of experience in rituals and ceremonies involving transformative, life, death and rebirth cycles.
With Lilith, you’ve bought in a magnificent sacred feminine warrior, who will have significant issues to do with men to deal with, but in her healed form a passionate advocate for truth, equality and high quality relationships.
The sexual quality of all of the above mixed in with Venus and Eros, is pronounced, essentially tantric, with connections to temple priestesses and sacred prostitutes and, it has to be said, some significant shadow areas around sexual abuse and the misuse of sexual energies.
So it’s quite a mix of complex and very powerful energies, so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s taken a long time to sort out what you’re here for. The 8th House is deep and mysterious enough, and far more than about money. Somehow your mission is to create your own unique contemporary expression of these different energies and bring it forward into the more peaceful zones of your Libran North Node.
To make greater sense of all this, I’d recommend past-life regressions work to unravel some of the history and identify what you’re really working with, and to use Voice Dialogue, archetypal psychology and/or experiential astrology to get to know each of the asteroids more intimately. Out of this experiential work, the archetypes themselves will feed you information about how they want to be expressed in your world.
There’s a lot to look forward to here, some deep territory to journey and great passion and joy to reclaim.
Enjoy!
