Not only is this extraordinary in its healing possibilities around the wounded and distorted expressions of masculine and feminine but, as I have said, a historical moment hypercharged by the eclipse and supported by a grand sextile for a new meeting of the wisdom, power and intelligence of both lines of energy.
Hygeia represents that aspect of our own inner healer that knows how to transform the deepest wounds and toxins, something that she shares with the essence of Kali. Her position then offers such healing to the contracted and conditioned patriarchy in Saturn and, to the enraged and rejected distortions to Kali.
Saturn in turn feeds back his capacity to give deeper consciousness, form and structure to the expressions of this goddess of healing in the world, conferring greater discipline, resilience and professionalism.
As the conditioned layers of Saturn crack open, instead of acting out the rejection and suppression of the sacred feminine, we can access the wise ancient masculine who acts as an ally and an equal to both Hygeia and Kali.
(Currently this is reflected beautifully by the Sister Giant conference in Washington Feb 2-4th aimed a creating the Politics of Love, with two great sacred warriors, Senator Bernie Sanders and Marianne Williamson providing keynote addresses!)
Kali responds by further empowering their shared Shakti, adding explosiveness to her healing expressions, pushing into the realm of greater of spiritual and tantric initiations, while adding more sacred warrior confidence and courage.
This also highlights a quality that she shares with the very essence of Saturn; absolute commitment to truth, as it is only from the raw truth of things that real transformation can occur.
As for Juno, goddess of marriage, sitting just inside Capricorn but still conjunct Kali, Saturn and Hygeia, she also receives a fair share of this blowtorch of fierce truth, purification and healing. This aspect of the combination highlights both cultural and generational conditioning around what it means to be in a committed relationship, particularly targeting distorted feminine power and patriarchal rigidity that has infused many of the relationships in our family systems.
As the deep underlying bitterness, betrayal and disappointment in this ancestry gets purified and released, it opens an extraordinary line of energy between Juno, whose mystery tradition is a Western form of tantra, with Kali as the core Shakti behind all tantric traditions and with gorgeous Lalita Devi, the goddess of sacred sexuality!
Broadly speaking then, this eclipse will for many coincide with the death or transformation of one’s primary relationship, with the possibility of some extraordinary Tantric awakenings and potential creation of new relationships founded on the deepest truths and mutual empowerment, with far less baggage hindering our personal and collective relationship evolution.
Eclipsing Full Moon T-square with Black Moon in Scorpio and Hecate in Taurus
While the first eclipse is one of the spines of an extraordinary grand sextile, receiving predominantly brilliant aspects from the rest of the chart, it has to be acknowledged that it also receives two intensely challenging aspects, squares to both dark face of the Great Mother and her priestess/medicine woman/witch Queen.
This combination resonates in many ways with what’s been said about the Hygeia/Kali/Saturn processes, so I won’t labour the point, except to say that the T-square intensifies all of it. For all the light and power circulating through the grand sextile, we are obviously facing some very destructive forces, some of which are driven by ancient karmas and are therefore unavoidable.
As Sally Kempton writes her brilliant book Awakening Shakti in relationship to the goddess Durga, an embodiment of the protective great mother who is closely associated with the Black Moon, the Indians have long known that while the dark mother brings great misfortune, she is also one to pray to when you need assistance to travel well through the necessary trials and challenges.
And that assistance is also readily available as both Black Moon and Hecate form an affirming kite constellation with Chiron in Pisces and Vesta in Cancer. In uniting the multiple healing skills of Hecate with Chiron the Wounded Healer, who in many ways is her male counterpart, the medicine man, their union is a form of a sacred healing marriage that simultaneously receives the extraordinary psychospiritual power of the Black Moon. More gifts shining out of the darkness!
In a similar unity, Vesta sextiling Hecate and trining both Chiron and the Black Moon serves to ground and focus gifts and potency of the latter three, through her role as the archetypal priestess one that she shares with her older sister Hecate.
This reinforces the call for all of us to not be passive in the face of the great powers constellated by the eclipse but to actively engage through whatever spiritual, shamanic, ceremonial and therapeutic processes are available to us to honour and channel these processes within our own bodies and psyches. In doing so we say yes to stepping up as sacred warriors, agents of transformation and exemplary healers and facilitators at a time when we are greatly needed!
