This Month’s Astrology
Generally speaking, the dynamics of this month are very much like that of June. Many of the processes of last month continue into this one, with some interesting twists. Similarly, there are some very intense challenges as well as some brilliantly supportive alignments to face the challenges and reap some of its opportunities.
The very start of the month has some excellent patterns but it all gets very intense quickly thanks to the Full Moon eclipse on the first Sunday.
The main difference though between the two months is that we moved from the air sign of Gemini into the watery emotional realms of Cancer, in ways that do shift our response patterns to whatever is going on. Cancer has a great deal more ballast than Gemini, which provides more stability and, has a greater tap root into our emotional intelligence.
How each of us responds individually in this climate is very much determined by how emotionally flexible and available we are, to be able to keep your emotional energy moving. There is a deeper aspect of Cancer energy that has tremendous emotional, psychic fluidity and responsiveness, as long as we don’t fall into the Cancerian trap of withdrawing inside its shell when it gets too intense or too challenging.
Sun in Cancer in Grand Trine with Scorpio Moon and Ceres in Pisces.
Firstly, starting the month with the Sun and Moon in a deeply connecting trine offers an initial stabilising influence that still has some healthy fluidity between the core masculine and feminine. Trines from both to the earth mother Ceres in Pisces further enhances those twins supports. In fact, Ceres, who’s Greek name is Demeter, operates like a more grounded and physically fertile second Moon.
Through the Grand Trine, these three create an aura of benevolent holding, an emotional and adaptable container that supports our ability to move through any significant transition.
Sun and Mercury conjunct Vesta and Hygeia in Cancer
Vesta is the archetypal earth priestess who is traditionally considered the goddess of the hearth, the central fireplace of one’s home, as well as the sacred fire of the pure light force and our individuality within our bodies. Another grounding influence, she also supports our ability to contain, focus and concentrate energy, which can then be directed to any emotionally important task. In her own quiet way, she has a lot to add to our creativity and fertility at this time, in ways that are very much in sync with Ceres.
This includes being able to focus and direct the healing and sacred power contributed to this equation by the presence of the kundalini goddess of healing Hygeia. You might remember that she was a major component of the New Moon eclipse two weeks ago, and this emphasis on healing continues into all of July.
So, we can clearly say the core of this month’s chart is based on tremendous creative and healing possibilities, particularly when one’s healing practices are drawn from the healing intelligence of the feminine and our bodies. These opportunities are also greatly enhanced by sextiles from each of these archetypes in Cancer to Uranus in Taurus, who adds greater voltage of intellectual and spiritual vibrancy. In very much earth wizard mode, he adds his own unique quality of magic to proceedings.
Moon in Scorpio opposite Uranus in Taurus
Given what I said about the presence of the Moon in the water grand trine above, this aspect appears quite paradoxical. Traditionally this opposition represents great emotional and psychic chaos, unpredictability and general instability, some of which is modified by good aspects from Uranus to the Cancerian stellium.
This is part of the nature of this month, chaos on some levels and creative potential on others, a time of juggling contradictory energies and layers of reality. Good luck with that!
Cancer Sun Square Chiron and Black Moon in Aries
A collective groan rises from the crowd, as we all thought that the Chiron/Black Moon conjunction, the same conjunction that coincided with the emergence of the coronavirus, was finally over!?
Technically that is correct, the two are now 8° apart and no longer considered an active conjunction. However, the Sun starts the month exactly square Chiron and then does the same to the Black Moon 10 days later. In the middle of those 10 days, the eclipsing Sun and Moon square both, one of the aspects that make this coming eclipse so intense.
So, we are having another round of deep healing and purificatory demands made upon us, just as we have some brilliant creative lines of energy opening up, another paradox to manage. The Black Moon intensifies the healing and initiatory actions of Chiron, the two piercing into deeper unhealed territory that we haven’t been able to get to until this point. So we can expect things to get pretty shitty, as old toxins and the other absorbed wounds arise.
However relentless both these archetypes can be, they are driven by the deepest love and compassion, so while we might be experiencing some intense psychic surgery or chemotherapy, these two are also holding the space so that we can move through the necessary stages of purification. This can then lead to the awakenings of deeper healing power and Shakti from both masculine and feminine sources.
The other major form of gracious support in deep processes of healing and transformation comes from an exceptional line-up in Capricorn.
Jupiter, Pluto, Pallas Athena exactly conjunct in Capricorn
As many of you will know, Jupiter and Pluto have been around each other for months now, an exceptional combination of height and depth, expansion and transformation, knowledge and power. With all the many horrible things happening around the world and their corresponding internal processes within each of us, this combination can allow us to flow more easily with the demands of this intense death and rebirth cycle we are in.
Coming exact, to the minutes of a degree, represents a heightening and an energetic pinnacle in this process. On its own this is extraordinary.
Adding Pallas Athena to this brings an even greater additional capacity to focus this energy, to be more actively engaged in the transformative and empowering potential of this time. She acts as a conduit between the primal depth of Pluto and the great for expansion of Jupiter (who just happens to be her father!) Her spear symbolism and intelligent warrior energy concentrates the energy for deep and expansive change to be directed effectively at any part of our lives that need it.
Given the demands of this month, this three-way conjunction not only supports our inner journeying but allows us to get more proactive and less at the mercy of energies that are normally beyond our control. This is an exceptional form of grace, as long as we don’t fall into the trap of misusing this power for our own ego aggrandisement.
Full Moon Eclipse at 13° Cancer and Capricorn 2.31 pm AEST 12.30 pm AWST July 5th
Like the June 21 eclipse, this penumbral eclipse (which will not be visible from Australia) forms an intense grand cross, with the opposing Sun and Moon not only squaring Chiron and the Black Moon, but also a conjunction of Kali, Juno and Parvati in early Libra.
The latter conjunction describes intense evolutionary pressure on our relationships and relationship dynamics, is a meeting of three tantric goddesses that strengthens the inner demand for high quality intimate relationship. This dynamo of Shakti is also intensely challenged by Chiron and the Black Moon, a situation that speaks of the releasing of ancient saboteurs from multiple sources that in the past have limited our capacity for authentic relationship, deepening intimacy and, for the uniting of masculine and feminine within our own psyches.
Expect our relationships to be challenged but in ways that can also offer us great heart and sexual healing, even full blown tantric awakenings.
Less dramatically, the eclipsing Sun and Moon also forms great aspects to that agent of creative change Uranus and to the earth mother Goddess Ceres, a continuation of the twin themes of grounding and emotional flexibility. Once again Uranus adds his spark of creative and magical brilliance, an offering that encourages us to see the gifts within the chaos and intensity.
Mars goes into Aries for the next six months!
This is a rather unusual situation, as the warrior deity usually only takes about six weeks to move through any sign of the Zodiac. This is due to the relative movement of the earth in relationship to that of Mars, creating extensive retrograde periods but in ways that keep him happily in the sign that he is most connected with, the fiery independent Aries.
On a broader level this is fantastic for getting stuff done! Mars in Aries is very goal driven, at his physical best, able to confront or pierce through obstacles, is a great initiator and very creatively fertile. He is also very, very, randy in the sign!
But before we get too excited, as he moves through Aries he will also go through quite an obstacle course.
He starts his Aries journey conjunct Persephone, the goddess of the death and rebirth cycle, with a sextile to Saturn in Aquarius. The latter gives him more discipline and focus, while the former will present him with past grief and losses, vulnerable territory that Mars tends to avoid, by either getting active or getting angry.
In this first week he immediately meets an opposition to the fierce Kali in Libra. Sparks may fly here, especially when Kali will go after any of the demons of toxic masculinity and, of unhealed rage.
In the second week, Mars has a great sextile to his beloved Venus in Gemini, who just happens to be hanging out with another fierce goddess in the form of Medusa. He and the Gorgon have some unpleasant history but there are good chances of reconciliation here. Fortunately, he also squares the healing goddess Hygeia, who can act as a balm to some of his challenges with the above three dark goddesses.
In the third week, he conjuncts Chiron the Wounded Healer, a great uniting of warrior energy with healing power and wisdom. Ideally, that is. How successful this is, is dependent on how much work we’ve done around core wounds to and from the masculine. And how willing we are to drop of defences to surrender to deep healing. Unfortunately, some individuals will act out their wounds destructively, as the healing pressure of this can bring old forms of rage to the surface.
Simultaneously Mars hits oppositions to Juno the traditional goddess of marriage and Parvati, the goddess of the sacred marriage, both in Libra. While Mars with Chiron offers some deep healing to the masculine, there is an implicit challenge here around balancing the masculine independence of Mars in Aries, with two goddesses of high quality relationship who are very much at home in the relationship oriented Libra.
Venus conjunct Medusa in Gemini
These are an unusual couple seen from a superficial angle, the loving reputation of Venus/Aphrodite meeting this often overly protective warrior goddess who tends to frighten men off!
However, if you know what lies underneath the enraged mask of the Gorgon, here is an awesome meeting of love goddesses, as Medusa is actually a beautiful, luscious and tantric Queen who has a lot to offer Venus, and any man who has the courage to meet them at this kind of depth.
This joining is also brilliantly enhanced by a series of trines to the unbelievably juicy Kali/Juno/Parvati conjunction in Libra. There is also great connections with the masculine, through sextiles to both Mars and Chiron in Aries.
So, in the middle of the intensity of the eclipse, there is also going to be some exceptional opportunities for relationship growth, deepening intimacy and tantric ecstasy.
May these goddesses and their consorts bless all of us!
With love and blessings,
Daniel
