This Year’s Chart.
Firstly, have a look at the Nova article for a pretty good summary of the astrology for 2017.
Pluto in Capricorn
I mentioned in that article that once again the Sun is conjunct this planet of transformation, representing another powerful year of deep change. Because he is so often in retrograde motion and the most distant planet in the chart his movement is very slow. However this year he is moving into new territory travelling from 17° to 19° of Capricorn for the first time in 260 odd years, meaning that if you have any planet or asteroid in that degree range, you will be having a powerful transformative visitation to that part of self from Pluto, one that it will repeat itself a number of times in the next two years.
Pluto is also in a grand trine with the Witch Queen/medicine woman Hecate, powerfully placed in Taurus and the exquisite soul connecting Psyche in the third earth sign of Virgo. This creates potent uniting of two great psychospiritual powers coupled with the exquisite psychically open and supremely heartful energies of the goddess Psyche, supporting the use of great healing and transformative power infused with great sensitivity.
Chiron, Eros, Medusa conjunction in Pisces
What an extraordinary brew this is! This winged god of love has been travelling with the fierce Medusa for most of the last year, a rather contradictory relationship that attempts to alchemically unite the lower chakra power of Medusa with the enlivening and exalting energies of Eros. In doing so, she offers more depth to him while he seeks to loosen her up with his life enhancing playfulness and passion.
In meeting Chiron, who often acts as a bridge between upper and lower chakras and previously disconnected layers of being, great sexual and relationship healing becomes even more available, as this threesome also has powerful tantric energetics alongside the healing power of the wounded healer.
With a trine to the Black Moon in Scorpio and a hard square to Saturn in Sagittarius, this won’t always come gift wrapped and so we can expect some deep challenges around various layers of patriarchal conditioning that limit the freedom of our naturally organic sacred sexuality and with our connections between the masculine and sacred feminine.
In the outer world though, take extra care, as the same equation can throw up various forms of abuse and sexual trauma, especially when you consider the shadow sides of the Mars Neptune conjunction in earlier Pisces that I mention in Nova. Be conscious of what and who you expose itself to, especially around alcohol and clubbing.
Kali, Hygeia, Juno conjunction in Sagittarius
This is another highly tantric and relationship healing combination, where the traditional goddess of marriage is opened at by the intense and liberating healing Shakti of Kali and Hygeia. If you consider that Hygeia is a Western version of Lalita Devi, the goddess of sacred sexuality and that Kali, as well is being a fierce warrioress for truth and equality in our relationships, is the power behind any significant spiritual or sexual awakening, then relationship change and evolution is almost inevitable.
What we do know for sure is that while Juno is a part of self influenced by marriage conditioning in our culture and from our parent’s marriage, these influences will be actively worked upon with some significant flushing.
What is additionally lovely about this is that Juno, in her essence, is a Western form of Shakti goddess of love and sexuality and this conjunction will seek to take us back to her core.
Uranus conjunct Ceres in Aries
This earth mother, who’s other name is Demeter, has also been in this dance with the wild and unpredictable Uranus for some time, a transit for awakening us to more of the sacred feminine, the spiritual power of the earth, to the necessity of loss that precedes greater freedom and to the folly of threatening the fertility and abundance of the earth.
On a collective level, psychologically this represents the urge to free ourselves from old emotional patterning, from maternal conditioning and what the Jungians call our mother complexes.
What is new about this conjunction is that it is now opposed by the Shiva, Jupiter, and Parvati conjunction in Libra, one that highlights the vision of the sacred marriage within and without. And this is especially significant spiritually, as an opposition from Jupiter to Uranus alone has the effect of opening up our minds to greater perspectives, our upper chakras to higher forms of consciousness, and of connecting with the transcendent.
I normally issue warnings here about the danger of excessive detachment and ungroundedness, but when you have the greater earth mother in Ceres and the supreme yogini lover Parvati, who’s own Shakti is so great that she can bring Shiva out of meditation, there is enough healthy anchoring here that the most elevated psychic and spiritual openings can be supported by deep earthing powers within our own bodies.
Jupiter in Libra
I have mentioned elsewhere that Jupiter resonates with the benevolent gracious India God Ganesh and so it is especially auspicious for the planet to sit between these archetypal parents of Shiva and Parvati. The combination of love power and grace is actually quite beyond words.
And with the three in good relationship to Saturn in Sagittarius, we are offered opportunities to channel this energy in creative outlets in the world, great for the manifestation of spiritual healing and creative gifts, for the visions that comes from those sources and for grounding what we know to be true from our own authentic wisdom so that we can truly walk our talk in the world.
And at a time when there is a great need for healing the wounded masculine including masculine sexuality, Jupiter and Shiva together is one of the highest expressions of the sacred masculine that emerges from the purification and refinement of denser forms of masculine, including its raw instinctual and aggressive leanings.
Jupiter with Parvati also reinforces that the truly empowered and sacred masculine is never disconnected from the deep feminine, as she is his Shakti and so drives his ability to act in the world.
As for Jupiter’s general passage through Libra, he reaches 23° of the sign (in fact goes stationary exactly on the week of the first February eclipse!) then retrogrades back to 13° before turning around in mid June in order to complete his passage through the sign, ending as he enters Scorpio on October 11th.
During this time he will repeat his sextiles to transiting Saturn that I spoke of so glowingly in the Nova article as well.
Saturn in Sagittarius
In a parallel process to Jupiter, Saturn makes it to 27° of Sagittarius in April, retrogrades back to 21° in August to eventually leave the sign and enter Capricorn in December.
At the moment he is within a degree of exactly trining Uranus, a brilliant mix of earthy wisdom and the innovative wizardry of his sky god father. The two maintain this relationship, to within a few degrees of exact for the entirety of the year. This is the reason I have described this is an exceptional year for the manifestation of innovative ideas, causes and technology.
(It is on the wave of this combination, that I am planning to put the experiential astrology more fully on the map in Australia this year through the two confests in May and August)
What is extraordinary is that the Saturn and Uranus, Jupiter arrangement is that it gets hyper charged by the February 11 eclipse. This includes Saturn conjuncting Kali and Hygeia, which I am seeing as an extraordinary opportunity for healing between traditionally antagonistic energies, between the wisdom lines of the masculine and the lines of knowledge and power from the sacred feminine.
For those of you out of reach of the Katoomba and Perth workshops, I encourage you to either find appropriate workshops and retreats, where you can actively work this energy or at the very least create ceremony to honour the event or, your own intensive using your deepest spiritual and therapeutic practices.
Go well throughout the year, with great love, respect and blessings,
Daniel
