Q:  I notice the “Supermoon” expected next year falls right on my Sun in Pisces (at 28 degrees 56). What portent could this possibly create for me or what do I need to know to safely navigate this time?

(A supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth. The technical name is the perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermoon)

A: It’s obvious symbolically and energetically that the Moon at its closest point to the earth is going to heighten the strength of the emotional energies of the time, whatever their nature. This one is particularly significant and powerful because it is also a total solar eclipse and one that coincides with an exact square between Pluto and Uranus. So you question has even more validity in the face of such a multiple wildcard of synchronised and unpredictable events.

It’s probably a good idea for all of us to lay low on the night of the eclipse, that is avoid being out in public, as even though an eclipse is always a powerful time for doing deep inner work, most of the world is not engaged in such activities and the unpredictable nature of any eclipse, but especially this one, it could get quite crazy out there!

My over-riding sense of its impact on you and your chart is that this is a massive opportunity to heal and empower the relationship between the deep masculine and feminine within you.

A solar eclipse magnifies the new beginnings symbolism of the New Moon, a depth charge dropped deeply into the solar home of your being. With your Pisces Sun conjunct Shiva, Chiron and Saturn, a multi-layered entanglement of the sacred, wounded and conditioned masculine, its presents an enormous opportunity for cracking open deeper layers of the woundedness and restrictiveness of the early expressions of Chiron and Saturn and their impact of your own solar core (as well as with your relationships with men)

This includes awakening your Shiva out of his habitual aloof, meditative stand to actually engage with the world of feelings, action and the feminine.

Rarely do we get such an opportunity for cracking the anaesthetisations around our wounding nor the surface defences and rigidity of Saturn to unlock the true sacred wisdom and healing potency of him and Chiron. What an awesome combination these four are around your Sun and with this comes a turning point in your life for stepping up to use this sacred masculine potency, in conjunction with the sacred feminine, in the world.

The eclipse also activates your rather disowned Black Moon in Aquarius (and close enough to conjunct your Midheaven) by illuminating the semi-sextile between your Piscean core and this very powerful goddess, in her great mother Durga form. With semi-sextiles we can easily fall into the trap of one end ignoring the others existence, which is like ignoring someone chained to your leg. At some point you have to accept that each other exist and work towards some kind of compromise solution.

As the Black Moon is at the midpoint of your Nodes and squaring both, her status influences whether you get stuck half way in your soul’s journey or infuse your life and your career with her power and passion. Working with her is critical as the purificatory and transformative processes that she demands will empower you to bring the best out of your South Node and move closer to your North.

And this is the most exciting aspect of the Supermoon/eclipse, as it sends great aspects to both South and North Nodes, drawing our more of your past-life gifts, cracking some very old karmic locks and opening more of the soul journey visions of the futuristic North Node. In doing so, it also activates the potent and potentially very erotic, tantric combination of Eros and Medusa on this “Dragon’s Head” of yours.

The above is a very unusual combination of energies; the flighty but gorgeous eroticism of Eros and the primal power of the Gorgon and it would be fair to say that there would be much fear and mutual antagonism between them initially. Both of them in the present though are in massive and radical change as on the night of the eclipse, Uranus in Aries is conjunct Eros and in turn squared by Pluto, while Medusa is close enough to be opposed by the very eclipse itself!

Eros is simultaneously awakened by Uranus, while monstered by the transformative energies of Pluto, which can manifest in any way from the most profound sexual awakenings all the way to some attracting some form of sexual violence or wounding.

Similarly Medusa activated by something as psychologically and spiritually powerful as an eclipse, must activate her ancient rage and grief, along the way towards being able to own her awesome love, beauty and tantric potency underneath her enraged mask.

It is these two processes that represent the greatest potential outer threats during this event, so it’s important to put yourself in the right places, not only defensively and also so that you have the space and support to work with whatever wells up from within.

Use the time well!
