Q. I have never been able to settle on a career per se and have many interests. In my chart it seems that the north node is conjunct my mid-heaven, and that the north node also forms an air trine with Saturn in the first house and Pluto in the fifth. I would have thought that all this energy would have had an influence on me career wise, but I seem to be happy “floofing” around…what’s going on???

A. Your Midheaven/North Node conjunction is in Aquarius, so on a superficial level, we could say that you are somebody who naturally needs lots of variation and personal freedom in what you do professionally and, there is a certain truth in that. However, there’s far more layers here that need inclusion in this discussion.

The North Node on the Midheaven is an exceptional combination as it describes that ultimately what you do in the world must eventually become a manifestation of your ultimate soul’s vision for this lifetime, that there can be no separation between the two.

However, few people are ready personally, psychically and karmically to achieve that until the second half of one’s life. This is because we have to complete certain karmas to do with the South Node position before we can be both ready and free to step fully towards the North.

Your South Node is on the cusp of the 4th House, the house of home, family, parents and generational influences, describing a lot of karma, good and challenging to do with your family of origin, childhood and deeper psychological influence running over generations. It may well be that you haven’t yet completed some aspects of that work.

As in most family systems and charts, there’s a mixture of some really good stuff and some really deep crappier material and the degree of your ability to work with the South Node and manifest the North Node is directly influenced by the latter. You have some fantastic energy systems in your chart, the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter conjunction in Sag the most obvious. Your Libran Moon is a very different affair though, with a contradictory mix of Hygeia, Black Moon and Uranus all conjunct.

This is a mixture of great innate healing power, deep primal mystery and sky god energy in the form of Uranus, who in turn is the ruler of your Midheaven/North Node sign position. This mixture describes an emotionally and psychically turbulent, and toxic, energy around your childhood which will have been very frightening for the child in you, one you will have attempted to escape from by heading for the upper reaches of self ruled by Uranus.

This gives me an impression that you may have been skating around in these upper realms, at a cost to your natural connection to emotional depth and power, to your ability to really commit and to connect fully with what you’re really here to do as a soul. It feels like to need help to be able to come more into your body and less in your head, to clear a lot of absorbed debris from a simultaneously gifted and toxic family system and, to get in touch with your lower primal chakras.

This work, demanding both spiritual and therapeutic practices, will help enormously with completing your South Node karmic tasks but also to claim your North Node potency. Much of this purificatory work has a lot to do with the Dark Goddesses but its not just about releasing their distortions but of claiming their power, beauty and authenticity, in conjunction with your Aquarian/Uranian gifts.

You also have Persephone on your Midheaven, not far from Hekate, two Dark Goddesses who are also a part of your ultimate soul purposes, and two goddesses who carry extraordinary spiritual skills and power that exist within you on these deeper emotional layers. Clearing in, reaching in and claiming them with turn your entire life around!
