THIS MONTH’S ASTROLOGY

The Astrology of 2024.

This month, and this year’s chart, continues to reflect the deep challenges of purification, transformation and the death and rebirth cycle that has been both driving and haunting us for months. Shit continues to happen and particularly toxic shit at that.

However, I am glad to be able to report to you that the chart is almost full of Grand Trines and even a Grand Sextile, two the best alignments and ones involving the often gracious, benevolent and protective energies of Jupiter.

This jovial giant’s position in the sky reflects a huge influx of expansive, growthfull and essentially positive energy into the collective, in ways that counterbalance both the day-to-day challenges in our world and the underlying darkness and toxicity being thrown around indiscriminately on the planet. And even when the challenges seen overwhelming, Jupiter energy ensures that we learn and gather wisdom from whatever happens, while lubricating the wheels of change so that we can move more easily through the necessary processes of healing, purification and reclamation.

Sun in Capricorn in Grand Trine with Moon in Virgo and Jupiter in Taurus

On its own, this is one of the very best of alignments, reflecting a deep flow and balance between the core masculine and feminine with the deep earthy positivity of Jupiter in Taurus. It’s the clearest demonstration of a better year ahead.

Linking three earth signs makes this a very creative, generous and potentially reconstructive dynamic, which has similar energies to that of Ganesh and Lakshmi in the east, loving and supportive deities of spiritual and material abundance. It’s also one of a number of can-do, physically and materially constructive line ups this month.

Sun Capricorn squaring Chiron in Aries and Shiva in Libra

The Sun in hard aspect to the Wounded Healer inevitably highlights the wounded masculine, the need for healing in general and, about how people who don’t heal their own wounds act as wounders in the world. And when people don’t take up the opportunities for healing, the inherent emotional suppression resists the benevolent opportunities like that of the above grand trines. And this doesn’t just apply to men, it also applies to the wounded and wounding masculine within a woman’s psyche.

On the subject of Chiron, this Wounded Healer conjuncts the soul purpose visionary North Node of the Moon next month, something I considered to be an astrological signature for the first half of the year, one that invites us to unveil more of our inner healers and how that journey intertwines with pioneering our individual soul purposes.

This lineup inspired the online experiential workshop on February 10th and the live in person workshops in Katoomba on February 18th, and in Yallingup WA on March 24th. Follow the links to learn more.

Moon in Virgo conjunct Hekate and Black Moon, trine Sun and Jupiter, opposite Saturn and Hygeia in Pisces

The Moon in any year’s chart describes the quality of the emotional and psychic energy pervading the very beginning of January 1st and gives us some broad clues about the emotional tone of the year. A Virgo Moon is a deep, earthy and quietly powerful position for her, a mixture of earth goddess, priestess and medicine woman, layered over with a piercing and insightful, yet practical intelligence. Her approach to life is serious, strategic, reformist, driven by a deep sense of service.

Being the cornerstone of multiple Grand Trines, she is lifted, empowered and expanded in ways that enhance our general well-being.

The equally ongoing opposition to Saturn reflects an ancient struggles between the patriarch and the dark feminine still playing out on one level and yet, on another, is a call for all of us to take responsibility for healing both toxic masculinity and distorted dark feminine within.

Venus in Sagittarius sextile Pluto, in T-square with Saturn/Hygeia conjunction and Moon/Hekate/Black Moon conjunction

I feel a bit sorry for Venus. Here she is in Sagittarius after an intense and moody period in Scorpio, wanting the sheer freedom to express herself, her love, her fire and her generosity of spirit! But then she runs headlong into some ancient conflict between the masculine and feminine! One end attempts to bury her with guilt, excessive responsibility and defensiveness, while the other end treats her like a lightweight and dredges up a whole heap of psychic emotional baggage, including unresolved relationship stuff!

This is not a happy place obviously, and describes a high potential for relationship difficulty and conflict. However, once again there are deeper threads of support for handling any relationship challenges, while injecting healing energy into the situation.

Mercury stationary in Sagittarius, conjunct Mars, squaring Neptune in Pisces

One of the more obvious gifts of the New Year is that Mercury goes forward motion on the second, ideally heading into some clear skies for this planet of the mind to be at is inspirational best in Sagittarius.

The presence of Mars close by normally adds more assertion, passion and fire to the way Mercury expresses, with a bit of an angry, short tempered and restless edge to it.

However, with both squaring the nebulous Neptune, you can’t always expect mental clarity or clear-sighted action as the latter planet often casts a misty cloud over the mind’s normal functioning, and tends to trip up the Mars warrior with feelings of confusion, doubt and uncertainty.

This is a not a good time for making important decisions then, but one which offers opportunities to adapt the way we think and the way we act, according to other less rational energies and perceptions arising at this time. Neptune can flush up accumulated psychic emotional rubble that we need to deal with, while his trademark confusion is an indication of some kind of mental and psychic rewiring happening between hemispheres in our brains. Seen from a broader perspective, this is a time of creating better balances between subtle and intuitive awareness with their desires to think and act concisely in the world.

Mars in Sagittarius Trine Moon, sextile Hygeia/Saturn conjunction, sextile Kali in Scorpio (and trining Jupiter on the 13th!)

As we have seen above, Mars has also been caught up in the Neptunian soup but is already moving away and will be clear as the enters Capricorn on the fifth. His trine to the Moon gives greater emotional energy and lunar intelligence to his drives and desires and so this is a good time for acting on things that are emotionally important for us. This includes getting more proactive in our healing processes, particularly with his sextile to the healing goddess Hygeia, a connection that is also highly erotic.

Mars sextile Saturn is another positive “let’s get things done!” approach to life, as Saturn provides this action man with firm guidance, enhanced focus and gentle but effective discipline. This capacity improves even more as he gets closer to the exact trine with Jupiter.

Jupiter in Capricorn sextile Saturn in Pisces

Here’s another gift from the universe at this time.

These two are a father-son combination which are also an archetypal couple, meaning both opposites and complements.

So having the two in a positive sextile is one of the best things to have astrologically for making our way effectively and creatively in the world. We get the right balance between contraction and expansion, stability and creative change, security and healthy risk taking, discipline and freedom, grounding and vision.

Certainly, we’ve all been getting our more than fair share of Saturn in the last year with interest rates, housing and rental prices, financial struggle and increasing homelessness. These two coming together suggest the possibility of a better balance, with more positive movement, grace and growth.

Like everything else in the chart this year, there is a mixture of both brilliant line ups and ongoing challenging ones, but the scales appear to be shifting, where the more light filled Jupiterian influence is arising. May we all benefit from this more positive outlook, may peace come to all levels of conflict and may we be able to ride a wave of reconstructive energy that will become more apparent after the initial Neptunian wobbles!

Go well,

With love and blessings.
